Auspicious Feng Shui House Number

Is it important to get an favourable Feng Shui house number? Does the number affect the Feng Shui of the house?

A lot of people have asked me these two questions and the answer is no, at least not from my perspective. If you recall the definition of Feng Shui, it is a study of the effect of the environment on the occupant of a house. The surrounding mountains, rivers and roads maybe but certainly not the house number!

(Some masters believe that the favourable numbers from the Lou Shu such as 1, 6 and 8 are auspicious while others like 2 and 5 are highly inauspicious! I am not going to disagree with this line of thoughts as I have not done enough statistical study but from a cursory observation, I would tend not to agree.)

The number of a house or street may however affect you from a different angle. To the Chinese the number 8 is considered auspicious because it sounds like ‘getting rich’. The number 4 however sounds like ‘dead’. As you would expect, most Chinese would not buy a house with the number 4. But what if he accidentally ends up with such a number? It may affect him from a psychological angle!

The house number may also affect him from a numerological perspective. Believers in the study of numerology will want the house number to harmonize with the house owner’s date of birth. There are well documented formulas to check if there are in harmony. It is does not harmonize then it is deem inauspicious.

In Malaysia, a country with a significant Chinese minority, getting an auspicious Feng Shui house number can boost the resale value of your house. I have many friends in the real estate market and they tell me that houses with good numbers consistently out price and our sell those with an ‘inauspicious’ house number.

The numbers would have different meaning in different cultures. For example in the West, the number 13 is considered unlucky. However to the Chinese the number 13 is acceptable as it sounds like ‘sure live’ implying a long life!

So, does an auspicious Feng Shui house number help? I believe not from a from a Feng Shui perspective but there are very good reasons to get one that is considered ‘auspicious’ in your area.
