Feng Shui Colors

I am often asked this question, “What colour should I paint my house or room? Another popular question for the ladies especially, is what colours to use for weddings and wedding invitations and bridesmaid dresses.

This not an easy question to answer. Like date selection, there are many techniques for selecting colours Feng Shui. Lucky all or most all of them are based on the Five Elements.

The five elements are Fire, Water, Metal, Wood and Earth. Fire is associated with the colours red while water is with blue and black. Metal is white or gold or silver while wood is green. Finally Earth is associated with yellow.

Different schools employ different techniques. For example in one school the exterior colours Feng Shui of a house is based on the sitting. So if a house sits north the colours that you should use is blue. Why north? Because north is associated with the element water. If the house sits East which is associated with the element Wood, then the house should have a predominant green shade!

In the Flying Star school the interior colour of a room or area is based on the combination of stars in that area. Let’s say that the area has auspicious earth stars, then it would be good to paint the area in red or pink. The reason it the Fire produce earth. The auspicious earth energy in that area is enhanced by Fire!

In another school, the selection of colour Feng Shui is based on the most useful colour in your BaZi, a system of Chinese astrology. Using this system, a skilled practitioner can study a persons date and time of birth and uncover the person’s most useful element This is normally the element that he lacks the most in his chart. Why? Because in an ideal situation, the number and type of elements should be in balance.

Let’s suppose that the element is metal. The prescription is to paint the room white or a very light shade to symbolize the element of metal.

This can get very confusing. So how do we resolve these apparent conflicts? Remember what I said earlier about using a single system? In practice you do not apply multiple systems in a consultation. If you stick to one system, there is no conflict!

Here is clearly a case where knowing too much may not be a good thing. <smile>
