Four Departure & Four Extinct Days and Impoverish or No Wealth Days

The basic principle of date selection is to first avoid the bad days and then selecting the good ones from the remaining days.

In earlier articles I have touch on Year and Month breaker days. These days are highly inauspicious and must be avoided at all cost.

I have also touch on Personal Clash days. These are days where the earthly branch of the day clash with the earthly branch of the birth year of the person. These days should also be avoided.

In this article, I would like to touch on two other bad or inauspicious days. They are the Four Departure and Four Extinct Days and the Impoverish or No Wealth Days.

There are four seasons in a year namely spring, summer, autumn and winter. Every season has a start day which you can read off a Ten Thousand Year Calendar. Pay attention to the day before the start of spring, summer, autumn and winter. They are collectively known as the Four Extinct Days as the ‘qi’ on these days is believed to be exhausted or stale. They are highly inauspicious and you should avoid using them for any activities.

The mid points of each season are called the Spring Equinox, Winter Solstice, Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice. The day before each of these mid points are called the Four Departure Days. The ‘qi’ of the day before each of these mid points are also believed to be exhausted or stale. They are again highly inauspicious and should be avoided.

This brings me to the Impoverish or No Wealth Days. I am not going to explain the ration behind or the derivation of the above days. It will take an entire article to so. Instead I will simple tell you that during the period from 2004 to 2013, any days with the stem branch combination of ‘Ding Hai’ and ‘Ji Chou’ are Impoverish or No Wealth Days.

These days are highly inauspicious for wealth pursuit activities such as opening or commencing business, finalizing business deals, signing contracts etc.

I remember a friend asking (jokingly) if such a day is good for lending money! In my opinion, probably not but it would be a good idea to check with finance companies whether there is a higher incidents of delinquent cases when a loan is dispensed on such days!

    1. Hi Carla,

The Four Departure Days is the days just prior to the Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice.

The Four Extinct Days is the day just prior to the Start of Spring, Start of Summer, Start of Autumn and the Start of Winter.

You can find out the start of each of these sub-seasons by referring to the 10,000 years calendar. Then simply take the day before the start of each of these sub-seasons.

I have given the dates for them in 2014, 2015 and 2016

      2014

      4 Departure Days: 20 Mar, 20 Jun, 22 Sep & 21 Dec
      4 Extinct Days: 3 Feb, 4 May, 6 Aug & 6 Nov

      2015

      4 Departure Days: 20 Mar, 21 Jun, 22 Sep & 21 Dec
      4 Extinct Days: 3 Feb, 5 May, 7 Aug & 7 Nov

      2016

      4 Departure Days: 19 Mar, 20 Jun, 21 Sep & 20 Dec
      4 Extinct Days: 3 Feb, 4 May, 6 Aug & 6 Nov

      I hope this is helpful.

  1. I want to know how define stem branch combination of no wealth days after 2013 and so on..
Why every 9 years span, no wealth days change?

    1. I believe that you are referring to the Impoverished Days.

The Stem Branch depend on the decade of the 60 years cycle.

For example 1984 to 1994 is the 1st Decade. 1994 to 2004 is the 2nd Decade. 2004 to 2014 is the 3rd Decade. We are currently in the 4th Decade.

In this decade the Stem Branch of the Impoverished days are Bing Shen and Wu Wu.

However these Impoverished days are neutralized if the Year or Month Stem is Chen or Si.

  2. Hi Henry, I accidentally commented earlier on the wrong post. Really appreciate an answer to my question. I went to SSM to register an enterprise on 29th Aug 2019. Only today did I find out that Aug 29 was a 戊戌 No Wealth Day/Ten Ferocious/Big Disaster Day. I have not actually started/commenced business yet, I only registered the enterprise on that day. What is your opinion and advice on this? Should I go ahead or start over? Thanks in advance.

    1. Auspicious dates help give the event a smooth start. The longer term success or failure of the enterprise depends more on the career and wealth luck of the owner of the business. In my opinion if you have the opportunity to do it right (register the business), then you should. You may wish to check your luck for the current period and moving forward. If it is strong, and your have commence business, just move forward with confidence.

  3. Do you have (or will you do) a post on how the 10 No Wealth Days are calculated? There appears to be several methods from different sources. Thank you so much for your wonderful sharing!

    1. Such is Feng Shui. For example, I have come across different versions of the Master Killing Days and The Great Sun Formula for date selection.
