Feng Shui Romance Luck, How to Improve it?

There are many schools of Feng Shui and they each have their special Feng Shui Romance techniques to improve romance and relationship luck. I will share with you a very simple but potent formula that can help you to improve the quality of your relationships with others.

This formula is taken from a system known as the Eight Mansions or Eight House which is more than 1200 years old. This system works on the belief that all of us have favourable and unfavourable directions that are influence by the prevailing directional energies that were present when we were born. These favourable and unfavourable directions affect us throughout our life and our fate can be improved if we sit or sleep in harmony with these directions.

Are you ready to take the plunge? The first thing that you need to do is to determine your ‘Kua’ or ‘Gua’ number. This number can be computed using your date of birth and sex. To make the process of determining your ‘Kua’ number easier, you can simply refer to this ‘Kua Chart’. Click on your ‘Kua’ number to find out your Yen Nian or relationship direction.

Let me illustrate with a couple of examples. If you are a male born on 1st July 1957, your ‘Kua’ number is 7 and your ‘relationship’ direction is north east. If you are a female born on the 15th March 1977, your ‘Kua Number’ is 1 and your ‘relationship’ direction is south.

How to apply the formula? To improve your Feng Shui Romance luck, you should re-arrange your table, chair and bed to face your ‘relationship’ direction.

Let’s say that your ‘relationship’ direction is north. Re-arrange your table and chair, if necessary, so that you are facing north when seated. Your back would then face south. This is quite straight forward.

The sleeping direction is a bit different. It is not the direction that you face while lying in bed. Instead the direction is taken from the crown of your head. If your ‘relationship’ direction is north, then you should sleep in a north-south axis with the crown of your head pointed at north and the base of your feet pointed south. Take the first step to improving your Feng Shui romance luck today!

Should you Consider the Garage?

Should the garage be included in a Feng Shui analysis of the interior of a house or office?

Garage
Garage

In Feng Shui system such as The Eight Mansions and Flying Star, the energy distribution chart is mapped to the interior areas of the house to determine the auspicious and inauspicious sectors. Normally, the bedrooms, kitchen, dining, living, stores and bathrooms are part of the internals while the garden, verandah and backyard are parts of the exterior.

I am frequently asked if the garage should be considered a part of the house or not? The answer is that it depends on the design of the garage.

In the tropics, the garage is usually nothing more than a parking space with a roof supported by columns and exposed on most sides. In this case the garage is obviously an external feature much like the verandah or backyard and should not be considered.

In colder countries, the garage can be a separate building enclosed on all sides by walls and the garage door. It is linked to the house by a walkway that may or may not be covered. As a separate building with its own entrance, sitting and facing, it will have it own energy distribution chart. However since the function of the garage is to house your car or cars, you do not have to worry too much about the Feng Shui there. This is unless you plan to emulate the founders of Hewlett Packard and start your own company from the garage!

In some designs the garage is enclosed and share one or two walls with the house. In this case you should see if there is an opening from the garage directly into the house, say via a door or enclosed passageway.

If there is an opening, the garage is considered to be part of the house and it should be included in the homes energy distribution map. If there is no opening between the garage and the house, meaning that you have to exit the garage and then enter the house using another door, then the garage is not considered a part of the house and should not be mapped into the energy distribution chart.

The Four Celestial Animals

The Four Celestial animals represent the ideal Feng Shui location. You can read more about the four celestial animals formation here.

Dragon Dance
Dragon Dance

In the ancient text the black turtle hill is often shown sitting north and facing south. China is located in the northern hemisphere and are exposed to cold winds from the north, hence having a mountain in the north to act as a shield is beneficial. The south is a source of heat and again it is beneficial to have a southern exposure.

However if you live in the tropics then it is not absolutely necessary to have a house that sit north and face south.

Regardless of the facing or sitting direction of the house, the turtle is always at the back while the Green Dragon is always on the left hand side of the facing direction which the White Tiger on the right.

In Feng Shui, the Green Dragon symbolizes the male while the White Tiger symbolizes the female. A house with a stronger Green Dragon side is believed to be beneficial to the males in house. The Green Dragon also symbolizes good relationship and prosperity.

The White Tiger on the other hand symbolizes the female, poor relationship, loss of money and misfortune. This leads to the belief that occupants of houses with a strong White Tiger have less money luck and poor relationship. They also produce domineering females.

Based on my experience, I do not find this to be entirely true!

The Red Phoenix in the front of the house should ideally be the same level of slightly lower that the house. If a slow meandering river or lake is not available, an open field can substitute for the Red Phoenix.

(Four Celestial Animals Trivial: The Red Phoenix can be a table mountain. It is mountain that is not high, sort of at eyebrow level!)

Green Dragon and White Tiger

The ancient sage believe that the ideal site for a house should be supported by hills at the back and have a clear uncluttered view in front.

Dragon and Tiger
Dragon and Tiger

In addition, the land (or hill) on the left (looking out the facing) should be higher than that on the right. This formation is known as the Four Celestial Animals.

The hill formation at the back is known as the Black Turtle. The clear uncluttered area in front which should ideally include a slow meandering river (pond or lake) or a distance low mountain is called the Red Phoenix. The hill formation on the left is known as the Green Feng Shui Dragon while the formation on the right is known as the White Tiger.

Lush green mountains are carrier of life giving qi while water is an accumulator. This formation of mountains and rivers help to accumulate life sustaining ‘qi’. Gentle wind carries the qi into the house as well as the areas surrounding it and occupants of the house can tap this beneficial ‘qi’ resulting in better health and greater vitality.

In urban areas, the Black Feng Shui Turtle, Green Feng Shui Dragon and White Tiger can be substituted by buildings or trees. The Red Phoenix can be an open area or a fountain.

Feng Shui Bed Placement

This article is about Feng Shui bed placement.

The diagram below shows a bedroom which has the windows at the NW, door at SE and the toilet in the N and NE sector of the room.

Sectors in a Bedroom
Sectors in a Bedroom

Now let’s assume that your Kua is 8. Your auspicious directions and sectors are SW, NW, W and NE.

Based on the Eight Mansions formula, you should place the Feng Shui bed in the auspicious sectors of NW, SW, NE and W.

However you cannot use the NE sector as it is occupied by the toilet.

Thus your left with only the NW, SW and W sectors.

As a Kua 8 person your auspicious directions are SW, NW, W and NE. If you look at the diagram below, you will see that you should not place in bed in the NW sector with the bed pointed NW because there is a window there.

Feng Shui Bedroom

There are many things to consider in the internal arrangement of a home. Three things however stand out as more important than others and should be address first. They are the location and orientation of the main door followed by the location of the kitchen, the position and orientation of the stove and finally the selection of bedrooms and the placement of the beds within the rooms.

Bedroom
Bedroom

Selecting the right Feng Shui bedroom, placing and orientating the bed correctly contributes greatly to the overall Feng Shui. Unlike the kitchen which is normally limited to one or two in each household, we usually have a choice of bedrooms. There are formulas to ascertain the most suitable Feng Shui bedroom for each member of the family. These formulas requires a fair bit of explanation and I will not cover it in this article. Instead I will focus on the placement and orientation of the bed within bedroom.

It is good practice to place the head of the bed against a wall for support. If you must, you can also place the bed-head against a window but be sure to have a thick curtain to simulate support. Another rule is the head of the bed should not share a common wall with the toilet.

But which wall should I place the bed against?

Both the Flying Star and Eight Mansions system have their own method to select the best position and orientation of the bed. The Flying Star method requires a fair bit of explanation and can be quite complicating. In the article, I will share with you the Eight Mansion method which is much easier to understand and apply.

The suitable position and orientation of the bed is derived from a person’s Kua. Click on the link below to find out your Kua and auspicious directions.

Please note that your Kua is dependent on your date of birth and sex. Take note of your kua and your four auspicious directions.

For example if you have a Kua of 8, then your auspicious directions and sectors are SW, NW, W and NE.

In the next article you will find Feng Shui bedroom information on how to place and orientate your bed.

Feng Shui Cures

In an ideal world, we would live in a house that has perfect Feng Shui. In practice this is near impossible to achieve as we are not able to completely control the internal and external environment.

The best thing to do if you suffer from a serious affliction is to move to another place. However if the afflictions are not so serious or you simply cannot move then you can apply Feng Shui cures to soften the impact..

Y Junction
Y Junction

Let’s say that your house is located at the intersection of a busy ‘T’ or ‘Y’ junction is exposed to ‘killing’ or ‘sha’ energies. The cure would be to build a structure like a high wall fence between the road and the home to block off the ‘sha’. This is an example of a cure by blocking.

Some masters will recommend placing a shiny metal plate to reflect the killing ‘sha’ qi. This is an example of a Feng Shui cure by reflecting or deflecting.

Suppose that your main door is directly facing a lamp post. You can relocate your main door or change the direction so that it does not face the lamp post. This is a Feng Shui cure by avoiding.

Let’s move into the house. Suppose the dining area of your house sits in a sector that is afflicted by the inauspicious earth energy of 2 and 5 that relates to illness and misfortune. Let’s also suppose that you cannot use any other area for dining. What can you do?

Pendulum Clock
Pendulum Clock

In the study of Feng Shui, we know that one qi can affect another. For example in the exhaustive cycle of the Five Elements, metal can reduce earth qi. In this situation, I would recommend having metal in the dining area. This may be in the form of a old grandfather clock with a large metal pendulum that chimes.

Lets suppose that your main door sits in a sector that has the metal stars 6 and 7 during a period where the star 7 is inauspicious. I would normally recommend moving the door because 6 and 7 is associated with robbery accidents (in the current period of 8)..

But let’s say that the door cannot be relocated. I would recommend placing a bowl of still water next to the door. Why? In the cycle of the Five Elements, metal produce water. In the process of producing water the metal energy is exhausted. Placing water exhaust the inauspicious metal energy. This is a example of a Feng Shui cure using the Five Elements.

Feng Shui Colors

I am often asked this question, “What colour should I paint my house or room? Another popular question for the ladies especially, is what colours to use for weddings and wedding invitations and bridesmaid dresses.

Colourful Ties
Colourful Ties

This not an easy question to answer. Like date selection, there are many techniques for selecting colours Feng Shui. Lucky all or most all of them are based on the Five Elements.

The five elements are Fire, Water, Metal, Wood and Earth. Fire is associated with the colours red while water is with blue and black. Metal is white or gold or silver while wood is green. Finally Earth is associated with yellow.

Different schools employ different techniques. For example in one school the exterior colours Feng Shui of a house is based on the sitting. So if a house sits north the colours that you should use is blue. Why north? Because north is associated with the element water. If the house sits East which is associated with the element Wood, then the house should have a predominant green shade!

In the Flying Star school the interior colour of a room or area is based on the combination of stars in that area. Let’s say that the area has auspicious earth stars, then it would be good to paint the area in red or pink. The reason it the Fire produce earth. The auspicious earth energy in that area is enhanced by Fire!

In another school, the selection of colour Feng Shui is based on the most useful colour in your BaZi, a system of Chinese astrology. Using this system, a skilled practitioner can study a persons date and time of birth and uncover the person’s most useful element This is normally the element that he lacks the most in his chart. Why? Because in an ideal situation, the number and type of elements should be in balance.

Let’s suppose that the element is metal. The prescription is to paint the room white or a very light shade to symbolize the element of metal.

This can get very confusing. So how do we resolve these apparent conflicts? Remember what I said earlier about using a single system? In practice you do not apply multiple systems in a consultation. If you stick to one system, there is no conflict!

Here is clearly a case where knowing too much may not be a good thing. <smile>

Your Ideal Sitting and Sleeping Direction

Does our sitting and sleeping direction affect us?

The answer is a resounding yes in Feng Shui. In both the Eight Mansions and Flying Star system, there are rules governing them. In this article I will share with you the method from the Eight Mansions system.

In the Eight Mansions system, everyone of us has a Kua number that is calculated from our date of birth and sex. There are eight numbers from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9. The numbers 1,3,4 and 9 belong to a group called the East Group (also called East Life) while the remaining numbers 2,6,7 and 8 belong to another group called the West Group (also known as West Life).

Each Kua has a set of 4 auspicious directions and 4 inauspicious directions. The four auspicious directions are Sheng Qi (Prosperity), Tian Yi (Health), Nen Yian (Relationship) and Fu Wei (Mild Good Luck). The four inauspicious directions are Ho Hai (Mild Bad Luck), Wu Gui (Quarrel), Liu Sha (Seperation) and Jue Ming (Total Loss).

You can find out which group you belong to and your auspicious directions by using the Kua Number Chart at
http://www.henryfong.com/kua.htm

The objective is to find a sitting and sleeping direction that matches our Kua. This apply to activities where you spend an extended amount of time on it, e.g. working at your desk, on the computer, watching TV, sleeping etc.

Let me illustrate with an example. Let’s say your Kua is 7. Your favourable directions are NW, SW, NE and W. If you want great success and prosperity then you should sit facing NW (looking in the direction NW). You should also try to sleeping with the top of your head pointed towards the direction NW (meaning that your feet is pointing in the opposite direction of SE).

If you are currently facing difficulties such as misfortune, illnesses, accidents, legal entanglement, separation or divorce etc and you discover that you are sleeping facing one of the four inauspicious directions especially Liu Sha and Jue Ming, you must change to a better sitting and sleeping direction. Pronto! It can only get better.

The Flying Star system also have rules governing the sitting and sleeping direction and you may get different results. The important thing to remember is that you cannot mix the systems. For these formulas to be effective you must apply the rules from one system.

Missing Corners

An house or land should ideally be square or rectangular. If more than a third of the length and breadth is missing, then you potentially have a missing corner.

Pa Kua & Family
Pa Kua & Family

Each Kua in the Pa Kua is associated with a member of the family and occupy a sector. For example Qian is associated with the Father and the sector NW while Kun is with the mother and the sector SW. Chen, Kan and Ken is associated with the eldest, middle and youngest son while Xun, Li and Dui with the eldest, middle and youngest daughter. The sector that they occupy is shown in the diagram on the left.

There are a lot of reasons why a missing corner can be a fearful preposition.

Let me tell you a story. One day the eldest son in the family suddenly fell ill. The doctors who treated him were unable to pin point the cause of his problem and hence unable to prescribe an effective cure. This carried on for a few days until someone suggested that they consult a Feng Shui master.

The Feng Shui master came, surveyed the premises and then proceeded to tell them the cause and solution. He said that the son’s illness is caused by retaining wall on the east sector of the house that has collapsed. The solution is to simply repair the wall.

The wall was repair and he promptly recovered. Now this may or may not be a true story but it serves to illustrate the importance of missing corners.

For some schools such as the Flying Star school, a missing corner need not be a big issue. A house is normally divided into 9 sectors called palaces or court. Based on a formula, some sector will turn out to have auspicious qi which other will have inauspicious qi.

According to this school, if a auspicious sector is missing it is regrettable but if an inauspicious sector is missing, it is not a bad thing after all!

Nevertheless if you a looking for a house or a land, I would suggest you to get one that is of regular shape without missing corners.
